After Steve and I had met The Spokesmodels on the SAGBRAW ride across Wisconsin in ’05 and had enjoyed each others’ company, we had decided to meet the next year to ride the Michigan Shoreline Ride.
The ride started in Spring Lake and ended in Mackinaw City. We met up with The Spokesmodels in Spring Lake and found out that this year they had brought an RV with them which made better sleeping accommodations for them and a better place for us to meet at the end of the day’s ride to slake our thirst.
Once again we enjoyed each others’ company and having them on the ride made a good ride a great one.
While the ride spent a good share of the ride along Lake Michigan, it also went through beautiful inland areas which included fields of sunflowers like the one shown above.
The route did, however, stay close to Lake Michigan’s Shoreline (thus the ride’s name) and gave some very scenic views as we cycled along.
One of our favorite sights, though, after having finished about three-fourths of one of our daily rides, which averaged 60-80 miles, was the Pekadylle Ice Cream Shop. We stopped to rest our legs and renew our energy (okay, our legs didn’t really need the rest—it was the ice cream that convinced us to stop).
