Over the years I have accumulated many photos of my various rides. Photos always bring back the good memories of the rides so I take many and refer to them from time to time. I have, on my many trips, seen and photographed some funny signs and thought some of them might bring a laugh for my readers. The heading photo was taken by one of my friends, Dave DeGraff (an accomplished amateur photographer), and, while not being a funny photo, I think it is somewhat artistic so I included it in this article.
Here are some of the photos I deem to be somewhat humorous:
Okay, this isn’t funny, either, but is one of my favorites. These two boys were selling lemonade and treats along the route of the first TRAM (The Ride Across Minnesota) in which I rode. I have yet to pass up a lemonade stand.
We were told the name is pronounced Wilfert but, well, you know. That’s my buddy, Eric, posing under the sign.
This sign doesn’t look funny until you hear the story. I took the photo in Missouri (known as “The Show Me State” because of the peoples’ propensity for stubbornness) on the Trans-Am ride. It was on one end of a one-lane bridge where two cars could not pass so one had to wait for the other. I imagined two stubborn Missourians on either side of the bridge thinking “No, YOU cross first!” No offense to Missouri—stubbornness can be a good thing.
Make sure to read the topmost sign. Ahh, the good old days when all we had to worry about being carried in bars were KNIVES!
Another one seen on one of our across-state rides. It did, indeed, seem like the middle of nowhere.
Be aware of crossing churches!
For the husband’s sake I hope his wife gave him permission to post this sign!
No explanation needed on this one. I think the sign is pretty clear.
We were DARNED if we were going to let Iowa MAKE US smile. Iowa’s not the boss of us!
Least Favorite Sign! I had to wonder if this person really thinks God would want him/her to kill someone for trespassing. I avoided that property just in case.
